A local saying is that

all roads lead to Beira

In the heart of Mozambique lies Beira, a city where commerce thrives through its extensive transborder and port network. It’s no surprise that this bustling hub is home to the Beira brewery, a vital component of the region’s economic landscape. When a crucial piece of infrastructure like a loan transformer faced disconnection, it wasn’t just a technical glitch; it was a potential disruption to the lifeline of Beira.

Enter AsgardHSE a dedicated HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality) business committed to ensuring operational continuity and safety in high-risk environments. Tasked with the challenge of reconnecting and switching over the repaired transformer at AbInbev-SAB Mozambique, we embarked on a mission that epitomized their expertise and commitment to excellence.

The project involved a multifaceted approach, addressing various aspects of safety, technical proficiency, and meticulous planning. Rigging and crane work were instrumental in maneuvering the heavy equipment, emphasizing precision and care in every movement. High-voltage electrical work demanded not only technical prowess but also adherence to stringent safety protocols to mitigate risks effectively.

Working at heights added another layer of complexity to the project, requiring specialized skills and equipment to ensure the safety of personnel and the integrity of the operation. Prioritizing safety, the team conducted comprehensive risk assessments and method statements, identifying potential hazards and implementing measures to control them proactively.

Highlights

These are just some of the noteworthy things that happened and that we took part in at the AbInbev-SAB project

Central to our approach were DSTIs (Detailed Safe Task Instructions) and PTOs (Planned Task Observations), which served as guiding principles throughout the project lifecycle. These meticulously crafted documents outlined step-by-step procedures, ensuring consistency, compliance, and accountability at every stage. Through meticulous planning, unwavering diligence, and a relentless commitment to safety, we successfully helped reconnected the repaired transformer, seamlessly transitioning to the restored unit.

In the end, the saying “all roads lead to Beira” took on a deeper meaning. It wasn’t just about the city’s geographical significance but also about the resilience and determination of its people to overcome challenges and keep the wheels of progress turning. Through collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication, we are honored we played a pivotal role in safeguarding power and ensuring its continuity in Beira’s thriving economy.
